Overview The City of Laguna Beach is seeking a skilled and motivated Crime Analyst to join our Police Department. This position offers an opportunity to transform data into actionable insights that support public safety and informed decision-making. Under general supervision, the Crime Analyst analyzes crime data and supports crime prevention strategies. You will collect and evaluate data related to criminal activity, identify emerging trends, and provide clear, actionable recommendations to guide law enforcement operations and strategic planning. Your work will support the Department’s mission to keep Laguna Beach safe and strengthen community trust through data-driven policing, while enhancing organizational efficiency and resource allocation. Responsibilities Analyze and interpret crime data, identify trends and patterns, and provide actionable recommendations to support crime prevention and strategic planning. Collect, evaluate, and transform data related to criminal activity to inform operations and decision-making. Support measurement of program effectiveness and optimize resource allocation. Collaborate with department units to translate analytical insights into actionable operations and policies. Qualifications & Skills Two years of experience in a responsible journey-level technical or administrative position, including data compilation, analysis, reporting, and recommendations related to business processes. Education: Graduation from a recognized college or university with major coursework in public administration, business administration, criminal justice, statistics, or related fields. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Power BI; experience with GIS; and desirable experience with Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Management Systems (RMS). Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to translate findings into actionable recommendations. Proactive mindset, exceptional attention to detail, and strong organizational and time-management skills. Crime Analysis certification from an accredited college or university is highly desirable.
