Job Description: Youth Director (Quarter-Time Position)
Position Summary
The Youth Director at Cokesbury UMC provides spiritual leadership, relational ministry, and program coordination for middle and high school students. This role is designed as a quarter-time position (approximately 10 hours per week) and focuses on building a Christ-centered, welcoming, and engaging youth ministry that helps students grow in faith, fellowship, and service.
Responsibilities
Ministry Leadership
- Plan, coordinate, and lead weekly youth gatherings, Bible studies, and fellowship activities. 
- Provide spiritual guidance and pastoral care for youth and their families. 
- Encourage and equip students to serve in worship, mission projects, and the broader ministries of the church. 
Program Development
- Develop and implement age-appropriate programming that balances worship, discipleship, service, and fellowship. 
- Coordinate special events such as retreats, camps, and service projects. 
- Partner with parents to support youth in their spiritual development. 
Administration & Collaboration
- Recruit, train, and support adult volunteers to assist in youth ministry. 
- Maintain clear communication with students, parents, and church leadership regarding youth events and needs. 
- Collaborate with the pastoral staff and church committees to integrate youth ministry into the life of the congregation. 
- Ensure safe practices are followed in accordance with the church’s Safe Sanctuaries policy. 
Qualifications
- A growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a commitment to the mission and values of Cokesbury UMC. 
- Experience in youth ministry (volunteer or professional) preferred. 
- Strong relational skills with youth, parents, and adult volunteers. 
- Ability to teach, mentor, and model Christian faith. 
- Organizational and communication skills suitable for planning programs and engaging families. 
Position Details
- Status: Quarter-time (approx. 10 hours/week)
- Reports to: Senior Pastor and Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC)
- Compensation: Commensurate with experience; to be determined by church leadership
